Former comfort women and their relatives have held demonstrations in Tokyo demanding justice. Japan apologised in 1993 for forcing thousands of women, many from China and South Korea, into army brothels. (Webmaster's comment: The women from occupied China and occupied South Korea were forced! "Jackie", as she is called in the article, is invited upstairs by her date, where she says she is gang raped by seven fraternity brothers. (Webmaster's comment: The worst punishment after many years of raping at the school was a single one year suspension. A one year suspension for a violent act of aggression against a women! Rape is a CRIME and should be treated as such! Every act of forcible rape of a woman should result in at least several years of jail time. The men that rape are CRIMINALS! Let's stop making excuses for these brutal men and punish them severely.)

Fewer than four in 10 adults in the U.S. (37%) say there is an area within a mile of where they live where they would be afraid to walk alone at night, similar to Americans' attitudes over the last decade and a half. Most Americans continue to feel safe in their immediate communities, with 63% saying they would not be afraid to walk alone there at night. Nearly half of all women, 45%, say they do not feel safe walking alone at night, compared with 27% of men. "I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet." First letter to Timothy. (Webmaster's comment: What could be clearer? The father - who cannot be named for legal reasons - voluntarily turned himself in to the police saying he believed his victim deserved such torture. He believed the man had raped his 13-year-old daughter. (Webmaster's comment: There is no excuse for taking the law into your own hands. It is never right and much to often you harm or kill the wrong person. Then you're more wrong than the original criminal and deserve the full punishment for your crime.)
11-3-14 Where are the white men?
Where are the white men?
The two-minute video of a woman being sexually harassed as she walked the streets of New York has become an internet sensation, garnering more than 31 million hits on YouTube in just five days. It has also sparked an online debate over what the video does - and doesn't - show. Isn't harassment of women walking alone in urban areas--(as men do freely & without incident)--a matter of neighborhoods? In NYC, certainly. Basically Rob Bliss is a rich white guy with a vested interest in portraying poor black men as the sole perpetrators of street harassment.

About once every five minutes an incident of domestic violence is reported in India, under its legal definition of "cruelty by husband or his relatives". The BBC investigates, analysing crime data and hearing the testimony of victims. (Webmaster's comment: I'd love to see the same report for the United States, the country which only has 1/4 the number of people as India but had 84,376 reported rapes, 2-1/2 times that of India. It's a raper's paradise in America!)

10-18-14 The forgotten women of the 'war in the East'
The forgotten women of the 'war in the East'
Richard Flanagan's The Narrow Road to the Deep North has won this year's Man Booker Prize. But there's more to the "war in the East" than the horrors of the Burma railway says novelist Isabel Wolff. Ten thousand British civilians were interned in China, Singapore and Hong Kong, while 3,000 American civilians were interned in the Philippines, at Santo Tomas. By far the largest group were the 108,000 Dutch civilians, 62,000 of them women and children, who were sent to camps on Java, Sumatra, Borneo and Timor. Their ordeal was to last three and half years and would claim the lives of 13,000, due to starvation, exhaustion and disease.

10-9-14 Will 'yes means yes' laws change the rules of sex?
Will 'yes means yes' laws change the rules of sex?
Could sex on university campuses soon require a lot more talking? California Governor Jerry Brown signed the country's first affirmative consent law last week, which requires that both partners give ongoing consent during sexual activity. The law defines affirmative consent as a conscious and voluntary agreement to engage in sexual activity. Under the law, lack of protest, silence or previous sexual history do not count as consent. (Webmaster's comment: A lot more talking? How hard is it to say "Do you want to make love?" and "Yes." Those that object to this law are mostly the males who depend on a women surrending against her will because she is afraid, drunk, drugged, or unconscious. Having sex with a woman without her consent or against her will is forcible rape, PERIOD.)
