Children's Inn Love, Hope & Safety
Shelter
- 24 hour availability to victims of domestic violence (child abuse/neglect, partner abuse, elder abuse).
- 24 bedroom secured facility.
Crisis Intervention
- Crisis phone answered by trained professionals 24 hours a day.
- In-person crisis counseling for individuals or family members who are in some way affected by domestic violence or child abuse/neglect.
- Safety planning, assistance with protection orders and victim's compensation claims, community resource referrals, 911 emergency cell phones, education and support.
- Arrest intervention - follow-up calls to victims of domestic violence after an arrest.
- Hospital outreach - visits to victims of domestic violence in hospital setting.
- Court advocacy - filing protection orders, attending hearings, etc.
- On-going counseling to previous clients.
Rural Advocacy
- Resources and emotional support to victims of domestic violence and in 5 counties; Turner, Union, McCook, Lincoln, and Minnehaha.
Parenting Education
- Common Sense Parenting group provides parents with skills to help build strong, healthy families.
- Offered at various dates/times.
- Parenting support for in-shelter clients.
Women's Support Group
- Women's support groups take place at Children's Inn and meet 3 times a week.
EMPOWER Support Group
- EMPOWER groups are for adolescents who have experienced dating violence or are considered at-risk of being in unhealthy relationships.
- Discussion topics include dating, staying safe, equality in relationships, personal boundaries, healthy communication, and what to do if you or someone you know is being hurt.
- EMPOWER groups are offered at area middle schools and high schools. Contact us or your school counselor to see if EMPOWER is meeting in your school.
Children's Support Group
- Safe, Assertive Kids (SAK) groups held in Sioux Falls Elementary Schools.
- 10 week sessions covering topics such as recognizing feelings, family and peer group choices, anger, loss, separation and grief (pre-register through Children's Inn).
Public Education
- Presentations on domestic violence and child abuse/neglect to schools, professionals, civic groups, and more.
